History

The Laboratory of Preventive Physical Therapy and Ergonomics (LAFIPE) started in 2006, under the coordination of Prof. Helenice Jane Cote Gil Coury. After her retirement in 2012, Prof. Tatiana de Oliveira Sato took over the coordination of LAFIPE. In 2015, Prof. Cristiane Shinohara Moriguchi de Castro started working at the DFisio and joined the LAFIPE coordination.
At LAFIPE, we conduct studies that aim to: 1) evaluate occupational exposure in different groups of workers using accelerometers, inclinometers, electrogoniometers, and electromyography; 2) evaluate the effect of interventions for preventing musculoskeletal disorders, such as workplace-based exercise programs and workstation adjustments. Occupational situations are also reproduced at our laboratory for risk assessment under controlled conditions. When necessary, mock-ups of situations (workstations, products, devices) are produced and evaluated through movement analysis, applied forces, or mathematical estimation (biomechanical modelling).
